In times like these, we may have had instances where we have felt threatened, scared, fearful, helpless and even hopeless. Recently, we have been inundated with news and various views on the Stand-Your Ground Law that which came to widespread national attention after the fatal shooting of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin. A stand-your-ground law is a type of self-defense law that gives individuals the right to use deadly force to defend themselves without any requirement to evade or retreat from a dangerous situation. It is law in certain jurisdictions within the United States. The law further states that under these legal concepts, a person is justified in using deadly force in certain situations and he stand your ground law would be a defense in that immunity bars unit, charges, detention and arrests. Despite various political and personal views regarding this, the fact is we face situations daily that come to kill, steal and destroy. Yes, these are the works and wiles of the enemy. Ephesians 6 warns that we must put on the whole armor of God that we will be able to withstand all the fiery darts of the enemy for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. As it is written, “For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” (Romans 8:36). Every day we are faced with troubles, trials and tribulation that weaken our flesh and our faith to keep us from reaching toward the mark of the higher calling in Jesus Christ. We quickly become the victim instead of the victor! I’m here to remind us of who we are and that with the power and authority that we’ve been given through our resurrected Christ and the Blood of Jesus, we are more than conquerors! We have been instructed to “Be strong in the Lord and power of His might; put on the whole armor of God that we will be able to stand. No matter what, we must “stand our ground.” In the natural, that is the law of the land. In the spirit, it is the law of the Lord! We have weapons gifted by God that guarantee that we are victorious in this life. He has already conquered sin and death. He pronounced us as “more than.” For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal (not the weapons of this world) but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds. (2 Corinthians 10:4).
Stand your ground allows us the right to protect ourselves when there’s danger on the premise and reasonable grounds to believe and in good faith believed that something or someone is threatening to take our life. There may be a time when we were not obliged to safely retreat therefore, we must stand our ground. We have all we need to stand our ground in the Lord. He has given us weapons of praise, worship, the Blood of Jesus and His Word. We must learn to effectively use that which He has given in order to fight the good fight of faith. “What shall we say then to these things? If God is for us, WHO can be against us?” (Romans 8:31). When we are confronted and tempted by the evils of this world, stand your ground! When the enemy condemns us and over powers us, stand your ground; when he makes us to feel hopeless and powerless and tells us that God has forgotten us, stand your ground; when in the midst of trouble and hardship and reminded by the adversary that there is nothing else left, stand your ground! Jesus did it when the tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread." Jesus stood His ground and answered, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that precedes out of the mouth of God!” (Matthew 4:3-4). Our stand your ground law is the written Word and is a deadly force against the attacks of the enemy. All rights have been reserved for the Believer to protect and defend. As a Believer, it’s time to stand your ground and activate this weapon of mass destruction that has been given by our Lord. Allow nothing separate you from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. In these last and evil days, live full, live victorious and in times of adversity, stand your ground. It is written.
